Student Profile

Youthworks College attracts a variety of students. With a balance of males and females, past students have ranged in age from 18 to 60. While the majority of students are in their early twenties, our community includes people who are single, married, with young children, adult children and with varying experience in ministry and life.

We have students coming to study at the College campus from a range of places within greater Sydney and beyond. Students from as far as Ulladulla, Bathurst and Blackall in central Queensland have moved to Sydney to complete the two-year Diploma of Theology. Others living as far as Shoalhaven Heads, the Blue Mountains and on the Central Coast have commuted each week to the College campus.

Some of our students have transferred from university or TAFE; some have spent a number of years working in a particular field and are returning to study after a long break. Some of our students have been involved in ministries at church or elsewhere for some time and are seeking further training; others are starting in ministry for the first time.

All of our students are involved in youth or children's ministry in some way. Some work full time in a church, a school, or in outdoor education ministry; some are volunteer leaders in their church and support themselves through other employment. While most of our students are members of Anglican churches in the Diocese of Sydney, there are also significant numbers of people from other denominations , church experiences and parts of the world.

This diversity of students gives us a great sense of being the body of Christ. Whether face to face or by distance, full time or part time, students engage in relationship with each other, with children’s and youth ministry practitioners and with skilled teachers. All of our programs are put together to enable us to share with each other, not just the gospel of Christ, but our very lives as well.

One thing all our students have in common is a desire to know God more fully, to explore the contours of faith more deeply and to be more effective in sharing Jesus with children and young people.
