The Youthworks College “Certificate in Box” is a resource that provides teaching materials for Certificate level theological and biblical study. Certificate level is a secondary educational level of learning that is able to prepare people for further undergraduate study and beyond.

Who is it for?

it invigorates [the students] to want to speak or ask questions that are much bigger and much broader. The students who take it are often ready for that next stage of biblical understanding.
— Rev Polly Butterworth, chaplain at Abbotsleigh

How to use Certificate in a Box:

The unit Teaching Guide provides all the information to teach the unit of study. The information in the Teaching Guide is intended to be distilled to students by a qualified teacher rather than distributed as a learning booklet for students. This allows for the accommodation of the content to suit the timeframe and context in which it is being taught.

The flexibility of “Certificate in a Box” means a teacher will utilise their own skills to teach the content in the way that is most appropriate for their context. This allows for teachers to use their own Learning Management System (LMS) for distributing and receiving assessments with their students.

It is envisaged that students will attend classes to learn the content and read the recommended text book alongside the teaching they receive in class. The assessment guide is provided to be used as it is, or adjusted to meet the teaching context.

What does it cost?

The Youthworks College “Certificate in Box” is charged as a subscription fee calculated on the number of students taught per unit.

There is no compulsion to subscribe to all units. The materials delivered for teaching a unit are delivered in good faith that each time the unit is taught, the fee for the unit material will be paid to Youthworks College. For example, a subscription to one unit only of “Certificate in a Box” may be purchased and taught annually in perpetuity with the fee payable each time it is taught. Any additional units to teach would attract a subscription fee for that unit.

The fee payable to Youthworks College for teaching a “Certificate in Box” unit is $60.00AUD per student in the unit.

The certificate unit is another subject that is given space and carved into the timetable. The girls do the certificate alongside their HSC subjects and are expected to think deeply and theologically. The fact that they are also being assessed gives studying the Bible an academic rigor.
